Sacred Somerset – A Tour of the Churches of West Somerset

Friday 18th to Sunday 20th September 2026

Sacred Somerset is a thoughtfully planned two-night break for guests interested in churches, local history and the rich heritage of West Somerset. Originally devised in conjunction with local churches and hosted by Richard Tulloch, formerly of the Diocese of Bath and Wells and a Trustee of the Churches Visitor and Tourism Association, this break offers a fascinating opportunity to explore some of the area’s most historic church buildings.

The break includes dinner, bed and breakfast, lunches, transport to and from the churches, and guided visits throughout. It begins on Friday with arrival from 3.00pm, dinner in the Gables Restaurant, and a welcome meeting over coffee.

Saturday includes morning and afternoon church visits with a stop for lunch, followed by dinner back at the hotel. On Sunday, guests will visit St Michael the Archangel, Alcombe, including the morning service, before heading to St George’s Church, Dunster for its open day, where there will be guided tours and more information about the church and its famous bells. The break concludes with a traditional Sunday roast lunch at 1.45pm.

Provisional churches to be visited over the weekend include St Andrew’s, Minehead; St Peter’s, Minehead; St Michael’s, Minehead; All Saints, Selworthy; St Dubricius, Porlock; Stoke Pero Church; All Saints, Wootton Courtenay; and St Petrock’s, Timberscombe. The programme also includes a visit to the RNLI Station in Minehead.

Please note that church selection and itinerary may change depending on circumstances at the time.

The inclusive price for the break is £290 per person for a double, twin or single room. Guests aged 20 or under may stay at a discounted rate when sharing a room. Extra nights are available at a reduced rate of £60 per person bed and breakfast, with dinner available separately. The organisers note that, while every effort will be made to accommodate disabilities, the tour may not be suitable for guests with serious mobility issues.

For groups wishing to attend together, a private meeting room can also be arranged, making the break suitable as an autumn retreat.
